Patagonia Azul: Islands and Salt Marshes of Chubut

February 10–14, 2027 4 nights / 5 days Maximum group size: 9 people Difficulty: easy From USD 1,790 Interest-free installments

Five days along the coast of Chubut, Argentina, between Bahía Bustamante, Portal Isla Leones and Rocas Coloradas. Groups of up to 9 travelers.

Introduction

Patagonia Azul Park covers a little-visited stretch of the Chubut coast, with estuaries, salt marshes, islands, bays and rocky shores. This trip explores two sectors of the park and ends at Rocas Coloradas, on the way back to Comodoro Rivadavia.

We stay at two coastal camps: two nights at Marisma Camps, in Bahía Bustamante, and two nights at Isla Leones Camps, in Portal Isla Leones. From each base we explore the surroundings in different ways: boat trips, snorkeling, floating down the estuary, walks, horseback riding and e-bikes.

Difficulty is easy and the group is small. The trip is designed to explore the coast at a relaxed pace, without long transfers every day.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 – Comodoro Rivadavia → Marisma Camps: arrival, boat trip and e-bikes — See details

We meet at 8:30 a.m. at Comodoro Rivadavia airport. If any of the suggested flights is delayed, the group waits. From there we head to Marisma Camps, in Bahía Bustamante.

On arrival we have breakfast and set out on our first boat trip along the coast, to see the bay from the water.

After lunch we ride e-bikes around the area. Since most travelers arrive on an early-morning flight, the first day's activities are low in physical demand.

Dinner and overnight at Marisma Camps.

Day 2 – Marisma Camps: trekking and snorkeling — See details

We spend the whole day in Bahía Bustamante. After breakfast we walk around the camp's surroundings: estuaries, salt marshes and the intertidal zone, the strip of shore that the tide covers and uncovers.

The walk offers a close look at how the landscape changes between land and sea, in an environment that can hardly be seen from the road.

The other highlight of the day is snorkeling, with equipment provided. It is a different way to get to know the bay, from below the water.

Second night at Marisma Camps.

Day 3 – Marisma Camps → Isla Leones Camps: transfer, guided walks and estuary floating — See details

After breakfast we travel south of Camarones to Portal Isla Leones. Isla Leones Camps is on the coast, facing the island, not on the island itself.

Once settled, we go on guided walks around the area to understand this part of the park.

The day's signature activity is floating down the estuary: letting the water carry you to experience it from within.

Overnight at Isla Leones Camps.

Day 4 – Isla Leones Camps: horseback riding and cycling — See details

We spend the whole day in Portal Isla Leones, exploring it in two ways: on horseback and by bike.

The horseback ride crosses the coast and the steppe at a relaxed pace. The bike ride reaches other corners of the area.

It is the last full day on the coast, with time to enjoy the place without rushing.

Second night at Isla Leones Camps.

Day 5 – Rocas Coloradas → Comodoro Rivadavia: Rocas Coloradas and return — See details

After breakfast we head to Rocas Coloradas, a stretch of coast known for the reddish tones of its rock formations.

We have a box lunch during the outing and continue on to Comodoro Rivadavia.

We arrive at the airport around 7 p.m., in time for the evening flights.
