Misiones is home to Argentina's largest remaining stretch of Atlantic Forest (Selva Paranaense) — one of the country's most biodiverse ecosystems and a refuge for species found nowhere else in the region. This trip follows a south-to-north route through private reserves, provincial parks, and key protected areas. Along the way, we'll visit some of Argentina's most celebrated birdwatching destinations. The departure coincides with the Big Day long weekend, one of the most anticipated dates in the birdwatching and naturalist calendar. Arrival in Posadas. Passengers may fly in on whichever flights best suit their schedule throughout the day. Once the group is complete, we'll transfer to Reserva Natural Don Rodolfo. After settling in, we'll head out on an evening walk in search of owls and other crepuscular and nocturnal species. A full day exploring the reserve's varied habitats. Trails, grasslands, forest patches, and open areas make Don Rodolfo one of the most productive birdwatching sites in southern Misiones, with a remarkable diversity of species throughout. Morning transfer to the Moconá Falls area, one of Argentina's most extraordinary natural landscapes. In the afternoon we'll walk the reserve's trails. Those interested may take an optional boat tour of the falls, subject to river conditions and park operations. The morning continues in the Moconá area, with optional walks and additional birdwatching. In the afternoon we head toward Andresito, birding en route and passing through areas near Parque Provincial Las Araucarias in San Pedro. One of the most intensive days of the trip, visiting sites chosen for their exceptional biodiversity. We'll explore Reserva Puente Verde, managed by Aves Argentinas, and then Reserva Urugua-í. Beyond the rich birdlife, we'll be on the lookout for iconic wildlife including black-fronted piping guan (yacutinga), tapir, and ocelot. After breakfast, we'll drive Ruta Provincial 101, one of northern Misiones's most celebrated birdwatching roads. If road conditions prevent access, activities will take place in the Puesto Uruzú area. The trip ends in Puerto Iguazú or at the airport. Those wishing to extend their stay can take advantage of the holiday to visit Iguazú National Park, either on a guided excursion or independently. We stay in lodges strategically located within or adjacent to the natural areas visited, maximizing time in the field for birdwatching.
