San Juan Expedition: Where Sky and Mountains Become One
Some journeys are remembered for their landscapes. Others stay with you because of how they make you feel. Our San Juan expedition was both: raw nature and an experience designed with care in every detail.
Over five days, we explored some of the most striking areas of the San Juan Andes: Cerro de los Siete Colores, the vast landscapes of El Leoncito National Park, the still waters of Laguna Blanca, and the unforgettable trek to Turquoise Creek, where glacial water flows in a color that seems unreal.
The journey began in San Juan City and quickly shifted into another rhythm: Barreal, the mountains, gravel roads, dry clean air, and the feeling of entering a different world. A geologist guided us through Cerro de los Siete Colores, helping us read Earth's history written in every fold of rock.
The heart of the expedition took us deep into the Andes to Laguna Blanca. We arrived by 4x4 vehicles and spent the night in a mountain refuge, surrounded by silence, peaks, and a sky slowly preparing for what was yet to come.
One of the most anticipated moments was the trek to Turquoise Creek. Walking through stone, rivers, and altitude to reach those bright blue waters flowing from the glacier was an experience that blended effort, wonder, and raw beauty. Every step was worth it.
And then came the night at CASLEO Observatory. Under a new moon and through professional telescopes, the sky opened like few people ever get to see. Stars, planets, galaxies… The feeling of being small and infinite at the same time was unforgettable.
There was also time to slow down: a visit to a local winery with tasting and tapas, long dinners, shared stories, and the peace of knowing everything was taken care of— all that was left was to enjoy.
